Glucose Revolution

Glucose Revolution

Oh, hey! It's just me in my pajamas soaking in my skincare wanting to let you know how much this book TAUGHT me.

Christina is holding the hard cover version of Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe.

Fitness and diet culture screams “calories in vs. calories out” with its full chest, at the top of its lungs, while often ignoring the way bodies actually metabolize food, glucose, insulin, and energy.

Weird, right?

This book gave me a fuller picture of how the body uses glucose for energy, the impact blood sugar has on our bodies, what happens when our bodies don’t respond the way they should: diabetes, PMOS (formerly PCOS), insulin resistance, etc. and what we can actually do about it.

Did you know insulin plays a huge role in whether your body stores energy or accesses stored fat for fuel? So what happens when you have insulin resistance and your body keeps pumping out more and more insulin to try to help deliver glucose into your cells?

It gets complicated.

It’s not always as simple as “eat less, move more.” You can be trying so hard, eating less, doing “everything right,” and still feel like your body is fighting you because your glucose, insulin, energy, hunger, cravings, and fat-storage signals are not working the way they’re supposed to.

This book describes those scenarios and explains them in a way that’s easy to understand, backed by peer-reviewed science, with sources cited in the back of the book. It also gives practical strategies to help reduce blood glucose spikes while still eating the kinds of foods we love. And there’s a supplementary cookbook and workbook, too.

I truly believe, deep down in my soul, that most people would benefit from learning how to level out their blood glucose, even if they don’t have an endocrine disorder.

Those 2 p.m. sleep crashes and emergency coffee runs? Sometimes, that’s a glucose crash. Eating less sugar in the morning and focusing on protein and veggies (yes, even in the morning) can help keep you energized and fuller way longer than that bowl of cereal, bagel, and muffin you consumed in your car on the way to work.

Read it. Listen to it. Absorb the info.

This book has become my bible. It helped me go from an A1C of 11%, very high, very Type 2 diabetic, to a healthy 5.2%.

Knowledge is power.
